The Press

In and earlier post I described one of us as the “idea person”, the other the “doer”. Can you guess who’s who? One idea I had for Ted was to contact the newspapers in the towns we would pass through along the way. Never in our wildest dreams did we anticipate such media interest.

On Friday, May 7, Ted was interviewed by Jennifer Moody of the Albany Democrat-Herald, one of the three Mid-Valley Newspapers. We loved Jennifer’s article and thought it captured the spirit of the walk and the reason for the cause. The following day Jesse Skoubo shot pictures of Ted in Lebanon, which would accompany the article when it was published on Sunday.  Thanks to Jennifer and Jessee for capturing the moment.

On Sunday Jennifer’s story ran in the three Mid-Valley Newspapers and was picked up by the AP. The next day it appeared in many of the larger daily newspapers around the state and was also picked up by one of the Bend TV stations. Several days later, Portland's Oregonian ran the article in its entirety.

We would also like to thank the publishers, editors and reporters of the small-town weekly newspapers who have interviewed Ted and published his story as we passed their way. Special thanks goes out to Alan Searle of the Yaquina Wavelength, Toledo, Oregon, Sean Morgan of The New Era, Sweet Home Oregon , Jim Cornelius of The Nugget, Sisters, Oregon and Ramona McAlister of the Central Oregonian, Prineville, Oregon. Also thanks to the Jefferson Review and St. Johns Review for publishing articles and information prior to the walk. We have loved every article, every perspective, and appreciate that you considered Ted’s trek newsworthy.

We would also like to thank our dear friend, Mike Hubbard, who contacted the Lars Larson Show early on the morning of May 10. Several hours after Mike e-mailed the show, I was in contact with the producer and then rushing off to the golf course to tell Ted he was going to be doing a live radio interview in a couple of hours. Ted came in off the golf course, had a drink of water, and within ten minutes was “on the air.” His day of rest turned out to be very exciting indeed!
